“No ring, no fetch.” It was a family vacation rule that Nicole knew Iris Schloss all too well. Gregory Scott Chatzinoff got wind of it after rejoining in May 2018 via the Jeswip dating app and started dating.
“Your boyfriend can’t come with us on vacation while you’re engaged,” Ms. Schloss tells her parents half-jokingly to her and her sister, Rachel, but they meant it.
The couple actually had a vague, distant memory of each other from the summer of 2001 at Camp Laurel South in Casco, Maine.
Ms. Schloss described herself as a “Durkee” sixth grader, then with braces, goggles and curly hair. “I remember he was very young, now he’s 6-foot-1. I was on the tall end as an 11-year-old girl.” One-year-old Mr. Chetzinoff said he was a “wicked child” And spent most of his time in water skiing, wakeboarding and playing tennis. ”
Six years later, in July 2007, at the camp and with about two dozen mutual friends, he befriended her on Facebook before going to college.

“I was a randomly selected participant in a Nux game to shoot free throws during a time,” said Mr. Chatzinoff, 32, a director of business development at Discovery Golf in New York, a division of Discovery Media Company.
Ms. Schloss, who was sitting in the courtroom, heard her name on a loudspeaker.
“Omg,” she said in a Facebook message. “You just saw some free throws at the Knicks game and took silly pictures. decent job!!!!!”
Mr. Chetzinoff responded to his message, and to dozens of others, With a juicy: “haha thanks.”
“It was a strange, isolated incident,” said Ms. Schloss, 31, who runs contemporary art day sales at Sotheby’s in New York.
Three years later, in May 2018, after spotting Ms. Schloss on Jeswipe, she swiped right.
They met the next evening Anfora, a wine bar in Greenwich Village through a five-hour date, and had their first kiss halfway. Later he went to his home in Noho.
“It was like catching up with an old friend,” he said. “I wasn’t even thinking, ‘Do my hair look good?”
Mr. Chatzinoff recalled their relationship “taken off like a cannonball”, and they spoke daily when he again went to Tokyo for Sotheby’s. In August 2019, she moved into her Upper East Side apartment.
In December, he showed the last full day of his family vacation in St. Barts, and proposed on Saline Beach.
