How to Make a Valentine’s Day Card With Newspaper

There is nothing like a beautiful homemade card to express your feelings, whether it is to express your love, tell someone you missed her or belated thanks for a holiday gift. And you don’t have to be an artist to create these easy collage cards. Cut simple geometric shapes from the newspaper, glue them in a pleasing arrangement and you’re ready to pen your message.

To prepare, find the areas in the paper you want to use. Look for good typography, colors, patterns or photos. (Tip: Try to save the At Home and Kids section of the Times, which always has gorgeous colors and illustrations.) Once you start collecting decorative pages to cut, you’ll never find a newspaper in the same way. Will not see

  • Pencil

  • Items to trace around, such as drinking glasses and coins

  • Scrap cardboard for making stencils (optional)

  • Stencil and / or craft punches (optional)

  • Blank card, or heavy paper or card stock folded in half

  • Newspapers, both black and white and coloring pages

  • scissors

  • Glue stick (or white glue and a paintbrush to apply it)

  • Marker (optional)

  • String, like baker’s twine

step 1. Using templates, stencils or tracing items such as drinking glasses and coins, draw shapes on a newspaper. (To make your own template, draw a shape on scrap cardboard and cut it out. You can draw shapes like hearts or find them online through image searches. Print the shapes, placing them on the cardboard Tape and cut them.)

stage 2. Cut your shapes. Tip: If using a craft punch, insert a sheet of paper as well as plain paper (such as printer paper) to keep the punch from catching and tearing the paper. You can cut your shapes into semicircles, and mix them.

step 3. Put your shapes on the card. When you make a pleasing arrangement, follow them to the card with a glue stick.

step 4. To make balloon cards, circle or cut circles and glue them down. Attach string with small dots of white glue. Cut a small triangle and glue it to cover the place where the string meets the circle.

Step 5. Tip for the Crossword Heart Card: Cut the puzzle before copying it and then solve it with your Valentine.
