Despite the fact that sports betting has recently been launched in California, there is new hope for tribal sports betting in the state. After ensuring that the latest laws regulating activities failed, Native American interests began pushing ahead with their own referendum.
The tribes sued the state on time to collect the necessary signatures for their own sports betting bill, and a California Supreme Court judge decided to give a coalition of nationwide recognized tribes another 90 days to collect these signatures. If successful, the referendum that would take place in November.
“In these unprecedented times, it is positive to see that California tribes’ efforts to continue their search for sports betting can continue without having to start over,” said Global Market Advisors adviser Brendan Bussman. “With today’s exception, there is little doubt in my mind that they can put this on the ballot and push their proposal for California voters.”
